When people hear “virtual school,” they often imagine a child glued to a screen for eight hours a day, eyes glazed over, disconnected from the world around them. But at Healing Roots, nothing could be further from the truth.
Our days are not confined to screens—they unfold in gardens, libraries, kitchens, mountain trails, and quiet corners of RVs. Healing Roots is a rhythm, not a routine. And it’s a rhythm that honors movement, creativity, connection, and rest.
Instead of rigid bells and set periods, we offer a balanced blend of live classes, recorded lessons, and offline learning. Some students begin their day with a nature walk and morning journaling. Others join a live discussion with peers across time zones, or watch a recorded math lesson from the backseat of a moving van.
Families create their own daily flow—fitting learning around hikes, errands, visits to local museums, or quiet afternoons baking bread. Learning doesn’t compete with life—it’s woven into it.
We do use screens, of course—but always with purpose. Live classes are interactive and small, led by mentors who know each student by name. There are no endless slideshows or faceless video lectures here. Instead, we focus on connection, dialogue, and critical thinking.
When screen time ends, the real magic begins: students head off to build, sketch, write, explore, interview, research, and create.
Our curriculum is designed to move off the page and into real life. A science unit might include a backyard soil test or stargazing journal. A literacy project might happen on a park bench, or at the beach with a favorite book and a notebook in hand. And throughout it all, students are supported by mentors who help them find meaning and momentum in their own way.
Despite the distance, our students feel connected. Weekly circles, small-group check-ins, and one-on-one mentorship create a sense of belonging that’s real and lasting. Families often tell us: “It feels like we’re part of something bigger—without needing to be in one place.”
At Healing Roots, we believe school should fit your life—not the other way around. That’s why we’ve created a learning environment that moves with you, supports the whole child, and reminds each student that they are more than a username on a screen.
